Rebecca's Regional Recommendations
by Rebecca Bliefernich on July 26, 2010
"A Walk In The Park" is a wonderful annual event in Carlton. I look forward to it every year. It has a full musical lineup, local artists selling crafts (65 last year), local restaurants selling great food (this is a classy event) and the wine tent is exceptional! Tastings are well priced. There is good beer (no PBR or fizzy yellow water at this event). I'm going Sunday for my favorite musical performance, though that's not a statement that really...

Planning to go to Europe in the next 6 months? Buy Euros now!
by Rebecca Bliefernich on July 22, 2010
Hi everyone, just read a very interesting article about money markets, exchange rates, and what the future might hold for the US dollar. The Euro is bouncing all around - one day it might be $1.23 and today it's $1.29. Since you are planning to take a trip to Europe in the next several months, or even next year, it makes sense to keep an eye on the exchange rate. Start buying and tucking away Euros for the trip on the days you see a great exchange rate. There are...

A different way of seeing New York City
by Howard Lewis on July 22, 2010
When I go to New York City I usually tour by walking, using the transit system or hail a taxi. The last time I went I thought I'd let a horse and carriage do the walking. Or in this case, trotting. It was amazing. Gotham Carriages, a family run business for over 25 years, offers two tours. One is through Central Park and the other is a mid town city tour. They run about 45 minutes and cover all the highlights and landmarks along the way. The drivers provide a historical narrative,...

Taking your kids on an International Trip? Rules and Regs are Tougher!
by Rebecca Bliefernich on July 15, 2010
In today's post 911 culture combined with the recent child abduction cases in the news, it's prudent to study up on the rules and regulations for taking your child out of the country or letting the grandparents take the kids for a week or two. First and foremost to know - it cannot be done without some kind of paperwork in hand along with the passport or birth certificate. Here are a few pointers and questions to ask yourself before loading up the car or heading to the...

Regional Recommendations by Rebecca
by Rebecca Bliefernich on July 12, 2010
The summer for me officially began with the Blues Festival over the 4th of July holiday. My 2nd favorite weekend is coming up on Thursday - and I have 3 favorites to keep me busy. First the Country Classic, a horse competition event that brings world class and Olympic bound horses and riders to the Portland area. It's held in the Wilsonville area the same weekend every year. If you have a horse crazy kid or was one yourself, this is a great event with hair...

Alaska Air goes Wi-Fi
by Dot Smay on July 12, 2010
Staying connected, if that's what you want, is getting easier all the time. Alaska Airline is joining the wi-fi revolution. "Alaska Airlines is now offering Aircell's Gogo Inflight Internet service on more than half its aircraft, including all 55 of its Boeing 737-800s and 10 of its 737-900s. The service will be available on the airline's remaining two 737-900s by the end of July. These aircraft fly throughout Alaska's network, including all transcontinental routes. The...

NCL Epic has arrived in Miami!
by Denise Vogel on July 09, 2010
It's not the largest cruise ship in the world, but the newly launched Norwegian Epic, making its maiden port call to Miami this week, has plenty of firsts and superlatives to brag about. It's the first ship to offer studios for single passengers. It has the largest spa on any cruise ship. And its entertainment and lifestyle options make it a floating Las Vegas, where passengers can go from getting a shot of Botox to front-row seats to see Blue Man Group or Cirque du Soleil. And when it's time for...

Luau's in Maui
by Lori Rogers on July 09, 2010
I have been to many luau's in Hawaii and the best one is Old Lahaina Luau in Maui. It is the most authentic and is located in a beautiful location. As with all luau's, it includes alcholic and non-alcholic drinks, buffet dinner and a show featuring hulaand fire dancers. Another good one, which I was very surprised about, was the Royal Lahaina Luau. It is also very reasonable in price and the dancers were really good. The only bad side to both of them is the line you...

Lobster anyone?
by Howard Lewis on July 05, 2010
As they say back in my neck of the woods, lobstah. Traveling throughout New England, especially along the shore, lobster is plentiful and historically; some say; the best in the world. Nobody takes lobster more seriously then those from Maine, also known as Mainers. Every year in August they raise the bar and open their doors to the annual Lobster Fest. It's held in Rockland located about a 4 hour drive north of Boston and about 2 hours from Portland Maine. Held along the...

New Personal Information Requirements for Airline Tickets
by Rebecca Bliefernich on July 02, 2010
The Secure Flight and TSA requirements discussion is heating up. All reservations after 01Nov2010 must have the required information in it. Every airline ticket issued in the USA must have birth date, sex and full name in the reservation record. If it's an international flight the passport number and expiration date are required too. These records are submitted to TSA 72 hours prior to the flight time. If the information is missing TSA will shoot...
