PORTLAND, OREGON (September 16, 2005) - Azumano Travel is receiving scores of calls from Oregonians who want to participate in an economic recovery when New Orleans and the Gulf region re-open for tourism. Azumano President and CEO Sho Dozono says his staff is receiving dozens of calls from people asking to participate in a humanitarian effort when that region begins receiving visitors and tourists following Hurricane Katrina recovery. "When we hear from government officials that it's time to receive visitors again, we'll respond," said Dozono. "We're taking names and information right now so we can help people who want to help the people in the Gulf." A target for Azumano is the renowned New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Dozono says when organizers there announce firm plans for the festival, the Azumano team will focus travel and tourism package around that time. Organizers for the Jazz and Heritage Festival announced this week they will stage the event in New Orleans or nearby, depending on recovery. Azumano Travel right now is supporting an effort by the Portland Jazz Festival (www.pdxjazz.com) to bring Gulf musicians displaced by Katrina to live and work in Portland. Two musicians from New Orleans are currently in Portland. Other musicians are contacting and working with the Jazz Festival to come to Portland. Also, Dozono announced that Azumano Travel will sponsor a concert September 24th at the Blue Monk (3341 SE Belmont) starring Bonerama, a well-known New Orleans brass jazz band whose members have been scattered throughout the United States. |
