Citizenship Award Nominations Sought
SOLV Announces 2002 Tom McCall Leadership Award Winner

Hillsboro, Ore. (July 8, 2002) - Sho Dozono, President and Chief Executive Officer of Azumano Travel/American Express is the recipient of the SOLV 2002 Tom McCall Leadership Award, presented by Bank of America. Mr. Dozono will be publicly honored at the 2002 SOLV Citizenship Awards Banquet November 1 at the Tiger Woods Conference Center on the Nike World Campus in Beaverton. Bank of America is the presenting sponsor. Jubitz Corporation, Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation and U.S. Trust Company have joined as major sponsors.

At the banquet, Mr. Dozono will be recognized for his years of service to numerous Oregon community and business groups, and for his leadership in promoting Oregon's economy and sense of civic pride to national and international audiences.

Mr. Dozono is a strong advocate of diversity and equal opportunity, and is one of the state's leading champions of Oregon as both a travel and tourism destination and a fertile ground for business and investment opportunities. As a respected civic leader and a former school teacher in Oregon, Mr. Dozono has devoted much of his time to many volunteer activities, and his list of accomplishments are significant. He is a past Port of Portland Commissioner, the Chair Emeritus of the Portland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, a past President of the Portland Oregon Visitors Association, past Chair of the Japan America Society of Oregon, and serves on the boards of the Portland Metropolitan Sports Authority and the Portland Art Museum, and is a Trustee of Spirit Mountain Community Fund, among other organizations. Mr. Dozono also is President Emeritus of the Portland Public Schools Foundation, having served on the foundation's board since 1995. During his early tenure on that board, he spearheaded the mobilization of 30,000 citizens to participate in the "March for Our Schools" which succeeded in raising more than $11 million to save teaching positions in the public schools.

Last fall, Mr. Dozono along with co-organizer Bruce Samson, turned the national spotlight on Oregon the "Flight for Freedom," a goodwill mission which brought a volunteer group of 1,000 Oregonians to New York City in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks. For their efforts, the group was cited for "bringing comfort to those who suffered great losses and in supporting New York and the nation's economy," and officially recognized by President Bush, Transportation Secretary Mineta, Governors Pataki and Kitzhaber, Mayor Katz and then Mayor Giuliani.

In addition to Mr. Dozono, four other outstanding Oregon citizens will receive awards for their community leadership and volunteerism at the SOLV banquet. Nominations are sought from all over the state and will be accepted until July 30, 2002. For more information and a nomination application, please visit the SOLV website, www.solv.org, or call the SOLV office at 503-844-9571.

Now in its ninth year, the banquet was established by SOLV and Bank of America as a unique way of recognizing volunteers from all across the state for their work to keep Oregon a treasure. The Tom McCall Leadership Award was established in 1994 and named for Oregon's legendary governor. Past recipients are Marty Brantley, Brian Booth and Gwyneth Gamble Booth, David B. Frohnmayer, Ken Harrison, Arlene Schnitzer, U.S. Senator Mark O. Hatfield, and joint recipients U.S. Senators Gordon Smith and Ron Wyden.

SOLV is the non-profit organization founded in 1969 by Governor McCall and other civic leaders to build a statewide group of volunteers to preserve Oregon's beauty and community spirit.

The banquet is open to the public, but seating is limited and reservations are required. A popular fall event, it is expected to sell out quickly. For table or individual ticket reservations, please contact Denise Smith at SOLV, 503-844-9571 or toll-free in Oregon, 800-322-3326.
